The School of Graduate Studies of Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) has held Matriculation Ceremony for fresh students admitted into four graduate programmes run at the University.
Addressing the students at the ceremony the President of PUCG, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng informed the matriculants that swearing of the matriculation oath is an important part of the ceremony to formally accept them as students of the University.
The President disclosed that the oath binds the students to observe the rules and regulations of the University, to obey the President and other Officials of the University, to apply themselves diligently to their studies, to seek knowledge and truth, and to promote the general good of the University.
Also, “the oath binds the University and the Management to seek the welfare of the students during the duration of their studies,” the President said.
The Matriculation Ceremony officially enrolled 342 students into the School of Graduate Studies comprising 199 males and 143 females for the 2019 intake onto Med. Educational Studies, M.A. International Development Studies, MSc. Natural Resources Management and MSc. Environmental Health and Sanitation programmes.
Assurance to students
Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng noted that an area that delays the graduation of Masters’ students is the writing of dissertation. “Therefore, your promptness in completing your dissertation will ensure timely completion of your programme,” he implored the students.
The President was worried that in a number of Ghanaian Universities, postgraduate students are not able to finish their graduate studies on time, due to one frustration or the other, and assured the students that “PUCG will not entertain this on any of our programmes.”
“We will provide all the needed assistance to students to ensure that you complete your dissertation on time. So prepare yourself to be pushed beyond the limit,” he intimated.
Examination Malpractice
Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng said “From my 38 years experience working at the University and 22 years of these at the top management of University, I have noticed that examination malpractice does not know a child or an adult.”
He noted that “Examination malpractice rears its head from time to time with students perfecting the act of sneaking foreign materials into the examination room.”
He believes that “with your maturity and the responsible positions you hold, I know that we can safely leave you without supervision during examinations and you will be truthful.”
The President said it is “Our dream to conduct examinations in this University without the use of invigilators. We believe this is very possible,” he reiterated.
Appreciation
The President of PUCG extended a special gratitude to the Bryan Acheampong Foundation for the support of scholarships to 70 of the MEd Students.
He appealed to other philanthropists to emulate the initiative by the Member of Parliament of Abetifi Constituency and come to the aid of other needy students pursuing various programmes at the University.
