The Chancellor of the Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) who is also the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante has sworn in the Chairperson of the Governing Council of the University College.
The new Chairman of the 13-member Council, His Lordship Justice Professor Emmanuel Nii Ashie Kotey is a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Ghana. He swore the oaths of Office and Secrecy as administered to him by the Moderator as the new Chairman of the University Council.
The short ceremony took place at the Conference Hall at the Head Office of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Kuku Hill, Osu in Accra on Thursday, 9th September, 2021.

His Lordship Justice Prof. Nii Ashie Kotey took over from the out-gone Chairperson of the Council, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akufo, a former Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Mante commended the new Chairman for accepting the responsibility to chair the University Council. He charged the Council Members to do everything possible to ensure the continuous growth of the University, especially to maintain the good academic standards of the University.

He also charged His Lordship Justice Prof. Nii Ashie Kotey to strive to obtain a Presidential Charter for the University.
In his acceptance, His Lordship Justice Prof. Ashie Kotey commended the PCG and the Moderator for the confidence reposed in him to steer the affairs of the Council of the University and pledged to work hard for the growth of the University.
He pledged to uphold the policy directives, and mandates of the University and leverage the achievements of the previous Council towards the full realization of the University’s mission.
The out-gone Chairperson of the University Council, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo handed over the statutes of the University to the new Chairman. She pledged her support to the Council.

His Lordship Justice Prof. Nii Ashie Kotey was born in Accra. After obtaining his LL.M and Ph.D. from the University of London, he enrolled at the Ghana School of Law and was subsequently called to the bar after completing his studies in 1982. He was a lecturer at the University of Ghana from 1981 until his appointment to the Supreme Court of Ghana in the year 2018.
While at the University of Ghana, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Acting Director of the Ghana School of Law. He also served as the Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission of Ghana from 2007 to 2009.

He was a visiting scholar in the United States of America, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Prior to his appointment as Justice of the Supreme Court, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana’s Faculty of Law.
