Members of the National Executive Council of the Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) Alumni paid a courtesy call on the President, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng at his office on 12th February, 2016 to discuss issues relating to the Alumni and PUCG.
The meeting was called at the instance of the Alumni Association to brief the President on the efforts being made by Alumni Executives to build a strong PUCG Alumni Association.
The meeting was also to enable the Alumni Executives identify areas of collaboration in which the Association could assist in the general development of the University.
The Interim President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Benard Ntiamoah Ntow, who led the delegation, indicated that the Alumni has been working hard to improve upon its membership which currently stands at four hundred (400).
He disclosed that the Association was also working at revising its maiden constitution in a bid to building structures for a strong Alumni Association.
The Alumni President indicated that the major outstanding issue that the Association needed to firm up was the Alumni Lectures for 2016.
He also stated that, the activity dubbed Alumni Time with Students is to be organised at campus level, for prominent members of the Alumni Association to share experiences on life after Campus with the students.
This activity is intended to deal with issues of relevance to students such as Building Relationships, Work Ethics, etc.
The College President thanked the Executives of the Alumni Association for the efforts they were making in re-organising the Association. He urged them to be more dedicated since dedication is critical to the successful organization of Alumni Association. He also assured them of Management’s support in the re-structuring of the Alumni Association.
Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng commended the efforts made by some Alumni, stating that through the network of an Alumnus, an Investor has shown interest in pre-financing the building of a Hostel soon for the University.
He informed the Executives of the Association of the on-going efforts at introducing competitive programmes in Engineering, Law, Optometry, and other professional programmes in addition to existing programmes. He also said, the Department of ICT is to mount Short Certificate/Diploma Courses.
Graduate programmes are to be mounted to add up to the existing programmes on offer at the University.
The Alumni President expressed the gratitude of the Alumni Executives to the President of the College for giving the team audience and further assured Management that the Association will consult them on issues and work harder to develop the PUCG Alumni Association.
The President, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng also expressed the pleasure at having the opportunity to interact with leaders of the Alumni Association advising that the team should not lose the steam built up presently for creating a vibrant Association, because when it does happen, it would be difficult to pick it up again.
Present at the meeting were Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng ,President of PUCG, Mr. Bernard Ntiamoah Ntow, President, PUCG Alumni, Mr. Collins Osei-Abeyie, Financial Secretary, PUCG Alumni, and Mr. Kojo Frimpong, Alumni.
Others were Mr. Bright Korang-Yeboah, Alumni, Mr. Eric Amankwa, Alumni, Mr. Martin Adombire, Alumni, Mr. Samuel Nii Odoi Devine, Alumni, and Mr. B. Ohene Asare–Bediako, Senior Assistant Registrar, Secretary to the College President.
