The Department of Business Administration and Economics of the Okwahu Campus of the Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) have organized the second edition of the Business and Economics Quiz Competition for Senior High Schools in Kwahu. This year’s competition saw an increase of participating schools from four schools to eight schools.
The competing schools were grouped into two categories. Group A consisted of St. Peters Senior High (who were the winners of the first edition), Abetifi Presbyterian Senior High, Bepong Senior High and Nkawkaw Senior High. Group B consisted of Nkwatia Presbyterian Senior High, St. Paul’s Senior High, Kwahu Ridge Senior High and St. Dominic’s Senior High.
St. Peters Senior High School won the four-round competition with 38 points. Bepong Senior High School, and St. Paul’s Senior High School were 1st and 2nd runner ups respectively with 24 and 23 points.
The Competition was organized to foster closer ties among Senior High Schools in the catchment area of the University; promote closer relationships between the University and Senior High Schools in the area; create a healthy academic competition among students offering Business; and offer an avenue to prepare final year students for the final WASSCE.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of School of Business and Economics, Mr. Ebenezer Agyeman Badu commended the participated schools about their preparation and commitment that ensured the success of the competition.
He disclosed that the Department plans to extend the Business and Economics quiz to cover the Eastern Region and the country as a whole in the near future. He believes that this would make the study of Business and Economics attractive at both the Senior High School and the Tertiary levels.
The tutors of the participating schools shared similar views as they expressed the delight about the organization of the competition and encouraged the University to extend the competition to the national level.
The students who contested for their schools also expressed their joy for being part of the second edition of the competition and also hoped that their schools would be part of the next edition. They agreed that the competition has set the tone for them to prepare well towards their upcoming WASSCE.
They were again of the opinion that extending the competition to the regional and subsequently national level will help the study of business and economics in the Senior High Schools.
Dr. Paul Adjei Kwakwa, the Head of Department for the Business Administration and Economics, as part of the closing remarks expressed appreciation to Ghana Oil (GOIL) Mpraeso Branch, GCB Bank, Mpraeso Branch and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Eastern-Volta-Oti Chapter for their financial support towards the organization of the competition.
He was equally grateful to the leadership of the Business and Administration Students Association (BASA) and Association of Business Economics Students (ABES) for their massive support that ensured a successful competition.
