CCPD 14th Edition of Online Certificate Programme

 The Presbyterian University, Ghana (PUG), Centre for Continuous Professional Development (CCPD) is organizing 3 weeks of intensive online certificate courses from Monday 18th November 2024 to Thursday 5th December, 2024.   Lectures will be held online from Monday to Thursday, from 6 pm GMT to 9 pm GMT.   

The cost per programme is GH¢1000 per local participant, and US$ 200 per international participant. PUG alumni, PUG students, and Presbyterians will have a 25 % discount.

The courses are as follows:


1. Certificate in Land Law

Rationale

The need to harmonise and consolidate the laws on land to ensure sustainable land administration and management, effective and efficient land tenure has become pertinent. This course is to introduce participants to the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036).

Goal

This course seeks to expose participants to the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036).

2. Certificate in Income Tax Law

Rationale

Tax reform is a hot political issue that is always being discussed. The complexity of the legislation, along with news stories about millionaires who deftly evade paying taxes, are likely to confirm the unpleasant concerns of many people that they are being unfairly taxed. This course seeks to expose participants to the Income Tax Act, 2015.

Rationale

This course develops participants’ knowledge of a variety of practical issues and problems that HR Professionals and related professionals typically confront. It deepens participants understanding of the legal framework and its practical implications for the employment relationship and contract of employment. It provides the foundation for subsequent professional development and enables participants to appreciate HR policies for effective function of the organisation.

4. Certificate in Criminal Law

Rationale

Knowledge and understanding of Criminal Law for non-lawyers is essential in promoting criminal justice. This course is to introduce participants to the Criminal Code, Amendment Act, 2003 (Act 646).

This course seeks to expose participants to the Criminal Code, Amendment Act, 2003 (Act 646).

5. Certificate in Constitutional Law

Rationale

Nearly all democratic societies in the world are governed by a constitution. The Constitution for most of these democracies is the supreme law of the land. It prescribes the law covering public governance, public accountability, and administrative and human rights justice. Daily working knowledge of these laws is essential for the proper understanding and execution of good governance and civil responsibilities by citizens, public and civil servants, the judiciary and private business entities.

Goal

The goal of this course is to introduce participants to the key aspects and the day-to-day applications of the provisions of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

 6. Certificate in Cyber Security Law

  (Cyber Security Law Act, 2020, Act 1038)

Rationale

Cyber Security is the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programmes from digital attacks. The Cyber Security Act, 2020 (Act 1038) in Ghana aims to address cyber security threats and establish a robust framework for managing and mitigating them.  Public education on the Act’s contents is crucial. Therefore, this course seeks to educate and enlighten participants on the contents of the Cyber Security Act, 2020 (Act 1038).

The goal of this course is to expose participants to the Cyber Security Act, 2020 (Act 1038).

7. Certificate in Gender Law

Rationale

Gender equality is a core development objective in its own right. Greater gender equality can enhance productivity, improve development outcomes for the next generation, and make institutions more representative. However, it is important that the public have a fair appreciation of the laws underpinning gender issues in Ghana.

Goal

The goal of this course is to introduce participants to the various gender laws in Ghana and how these laws facilitate gender equality in society and work in Ghana.

8. Certificate in Human Rights Law

Rationale

Human rights and Administrative Justice are two integral components of any proper functioning democratic state. Human beings, who constitute the central pivot of public service and governance, have the right to live dignified lives. Citizens must have access to due diligence in the court of law when accused of a crime, when they suffer losses due to unfair treatment. This course will enlighten participants on the concept of human rights. Participants will equally appreciate the role of human rights in sustaining a democratic society.

Goal

The goal of this course is to introduce participants to the concept and composition of human rights and administrative justice in Ghana.

9. Certificate in Natural Resources Law

Rationale

The African Continent is endowed with diverse amounts of natural resources. However, laws governing the ownership, exploration, processing, sale and the public and private accountability of these resources are woefully inadequate to guarantee both the ownership rights and a fair share of the revenues to the government and people of African countries. This course will assist participants to understand the variety of legal regimes that govern ownership and exploration of natural resources in Ghana.

Goal

The goal of this course is to introduce participants to the variety of legal regimes that govern the ownership, exploration, processing, sale and accountability of both public and private revenues from natural resources in Ghana.

10. Certificate in Health Law

Rationale

All over the world, medical practice in all its shapes and forms involves the administering of various medicines and procedures aimed at saving human life. However, medical personnel and the patients they serve require a set of laws to ensure that professional ethical conduct and negligence resulting in the loss of valuable lives are properly secure. This course will enable all related parties to health sector to understand their rights and responsibilities within the confines of law.

Goal

The goal of this course is to introduce participants to the key aspects and the day-to-day application of the provisions within Ghana’s health care legal framework.
