The Presbyterian University, Ghana has obtained accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to run a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Public Health programme.
Overview of Programme
The B.Sc. Public Health programme is an in-depth and unique programme as it draws upon expertise and practical experience of the key areas of Nutrition, Diseases Control, Environmental Health Sciences, and Health Education and Promotion, which focuses on informed practice, critically examining issues through the current and emerging trends of a multi-faceted approaches to deal with health challenges in Ghana. This programme has adopted hands-on informed practices and practical approaches in training students. And this uniqueness will enable the students to have a solid foundation to understand and develop interventions appropriate for challenges of public health. Following the completion of the programme, students will obtain degrees in Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Public Health with options in:
• Nutrition
• Diseases Control
• Health Education and Promotion
• Environmental Health Science
Entry Requirements into the B.Sc. Public Health Programme
SSSCE Applicants
Applicants must have obtained aggregate 24 or better in six subjects (3 core and 3 electives). The core subjects and minimum grades must be grade D or better in Mathematics, English Language and Integrated science. The elective subjects should be selected from any of the following subject areas: Science, General Arts, General Agriculture with Chemistry, Home Economics with Food and Nutrition.
WASSCE Applicants
Applicants must have aggregate 36 or better in six subjects (3 core and 3 electives). The core subjects and minimum grades are: grade C6 or better in Core Mathematics, English Language and Integrated Science. The elective subjects should be selected from any of the following subject areas: Science, General Arts, General Agriculture with Chemistry, Home Economics with Food and Nutrition.
Foreign Students
Foreign students may be admitted on the basis of qualification from their home country for which the West African Examination Council shall determine equivalence. Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required in the case of applicants from non-English speaking countries.
Diploma Applicants
Candidates with Diploma in Health or Allied Sciences who satisfy the requirements for admission shall enter at Level 300 (the Third year of the 4-year bachelor’s degree programme).
